That said, I acknowledge there is no one 'Sydney', as the place name spreads across more than 12,000 square kilometres and over 5 million people. You can have multitudes in any metropolis, it's just the general trend of social stratification I find appalling.

Don't talk to me about its pristine beaches and its picturesque Harbour when we damn well know those are for the wealthy to own and enjoy, and the absurdly rich to further profit off of.

I form deep emotional connections to places I live in and visit, but over damn near a decade of living here, Sydney has never really managed to gain a foothold in my heart. In fact, I can't bloody wait to get out of here.

(Although I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't admit that I do very much feel at home every time I return to the grotty streets of Newtown. It's just... not enough.)
