Nobody needs your thread on what your "uncle who works in pathology" said about transmission rates. There is official data. Nobody needs your Fb post with bullet points on how to socially distance/wash hands/not be a vector. There is official info! Nobody needs your noise.

The single best exception I've seen to social media being used productively in these trying times is a Facebook group for #TheKindnessPandemic. It's amazing. It restores your faith in humanity. Leave disease communications to the experts and stop butting in.

P.S. I know I did some of this before the pandemic was even declared - that was because I thought my journalistic instincts had something genuinely useful to contribute. Not any more.
